Microchip Launches Scalable EV Charger Reference Designs

Microchip Technology has introduced three versatile and scalable EV Charger Reference Designs.

The reliability and performance of Electric Vehicle (EV) chargers are pivotal for widespread market adoption. To support this, Microchip Technology has introduced three versatile and scalable EV Charger Reference Designs: a Single-Phase AC Residential charger, a Three-Phase AC Commercial charger with Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) and System-on-Chip (SoC), and a Three-Phase AC Commercial charger with OCPP and Display. These designs leverage Microchip’s extensive component portfolio, including microcontrollers, analog front-ends, memory, connectivity, and power conversion components, facilitating a streamlined integration process for manufacturers. This approach significantly reduces the time to market for new charging solutions.

Microchip’s EV charger reference designs provide manufacturers with comprehensive hardware design files and source code, ensuring compliance with communication protocols such as OCPP, which standardizes communication between charge points and central systems, promoting interoperability. The Single-Phase AC Residential design offers a cost-effective home charging solution with built-in safety features and automatic calibration. The Three-Phase AC Commercial design with OCPP and Wi-Fi SoC targets high-end residential and commercial stations, featuring remote management capabilities. The robust Three-Phase AC Commercial design with OCPP and Display is intended for commercial and public stations, supporting up to 22 kW with bidirectional charging and a user-friendly GUI. These designs, supported by Microchip’s MPLAB® X Integrated Development Environment and other tools, aim to simplify the complex EV charging landscape, offering robust solutions backed by global technical support.
