ROHM and UAES Sign Long-Term SiC Supply Deal for EV Innovation

ROHM and UAES have solidified their long-term collaboration through a supply agreement focused on Silicon Carbide (SiC) power devices.

ROHM and United Automotive Electronic Systems Co., Ltd. (UAES), a major Chinese automotive supplier, have solidified their long-term collaboration through a supply agreement focused on Silicon Carbide (SiC) power devices. This partnership began in 2015, with both companies engaging in technical exchanges aimed at automotive applications of SiC. By 2020, they had deepened their relationship through the creation of a SiC Joint Research Institute at UAES’ Shanghai headquarters. In 2021, UAES recognized the excellence of ROHM’s SiC power devices and selected ROHM as a key supplier for their products. These SiC devices are crucial for improving the performance of electric vehicle systems, including onboard chargers and inverters, by enhancing efficiency and extending range.

The agreement ensures UAES a steady supply of SiC components, essential for the growing demand for SiC-based inverter modules. With these modules already being provided to customers as of November 2023, both companies aim to further strengthen their partnership. UAES leadership emphasized the increasing importance of SiC technology due to the rise of electric vehicles in China, while ROHM highlighted their commitment to technological innovation in the automotive industry. Together, they intend to push forward the development of advanced SiC power solutions that will support the future of electric mobility.
