ROHM Introduces 1200V IGBTs with Leading Efficiency and Durability

ROHM's recent introduction of 4th Generation 1200V IGBTs marks a significant development in automotive and industrial power technology.

ROHM’s recent introduction of 4th Generation 1200V IGBTs marks a significant development in automotive and industrial power technology. These devices, which include four models in two discrete packages and 11 bare chip variants, are designed to meet the growing need for high-voltage power solutions in automotive electric compressors and industrial inverters. The IGBTs feature industry-leading low loss characteristics paired with high short-circuit tolerance, positioning them as a strong option for applications requiring both high efficiency and reliability. Their ability to withstand a short-circuit duration of 10µs at 25°C, along with a high withstand voltage of 1200V, exemplifies their advanced design and compliance with automotive reliability standards.

Key to the innovation is ROHM’s strategic redesign of the device structure and the use of a TO-247-4L package that ensures an effective voltage capacity of 1100V in specific conditions while maintaining adequate creepage distance between pins. This configuration supports higher voltage applications and reduces the design burden for manufacturers. Additionally, the inclusion of a Kelvin emitter terminal in the TO-247-4L package enhances high-speed switching, yielding significant reductions in power loss—up to 35% compared to conventional products. By integrating these advanced features, ROHM’s new IGBTs contribute not only to energy-efficient, high-performance automotive and industrial equipment but also support broader efforts toward energy conservation and sustainability.
