Hyundai’s innovative electric vehicle, the Ioniq 5, achieved a Guinness World Records™ title for the greatest altitude change by an electric car, showcasing its resilience and advanced engineering. The feat, organized by Hyundai Motor India Limited and driven by the Evo India team, involved a remarkable journey from Umling La in Leh Ladakh at 5,799 meters above sea level to Kuttanad, Kerala, three meters below sea level. Covering over 4,900 kilometers in 14 days, the Ioniq 5 overcame diverse challenges, including steep mountain passes and humid coastal conditions, solidifying its position as a benchmark in electric mobility.
The record-breaking expedition highlighted the Ioniq 5’s exceptional durability, cutting-edge technology, and performance capabilities. Developed on the advanced Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the vehicle boasts a high-capacity 72.6 kWh battery, ensuring superior driving range and safety. Its futuristic design, inspired by Hyundai’s iconic PONY, redefines smart mobility for a new era. Along its journey, the Ioniq 5 tackled freezing Himalayan temperatures and tropical coastal humidity with ease, underscoring its adaptability and reliability in extreme conditions.
Hyundai’s commitment to innovation and sustainability shone through this achievement, reflecting the company’s vision of “Progress for Humanity.” Hyundai Motor India’s Managing Director, Unsoo Kim, celebrated the milestone, emphasizing the Ioniq 5’s engineering excellence and its role in setting new e-mobility standards. This achievement not only demonstrates the capabilities of electric vehicles but also establishes Hyundai as a leader in advancing sustainable transportation solutions for a better future.
