Volkswagen to Build Third Battery Plant in Canada

Volkswagen Group has decided to build a large production facility in North America with battery company PowerCo. The facility, which will be located in Ontario, Canada, will be Volkswagen’s first overseas gigafactory. According to the statement made by the company, the facility, where sustainable battery cells will be produced, is expected to start production in 2027. PowerCo’s expansion from Europe to Canada clearly shows the company’s growth plans in North America.

With the new gigafactory in Canada, PowerCo aims to become a global battery player. Apart from Salzgitter and Valencia, this will be the company’s third battery plant. Volkswagen Group is preparing to introduce its largest portfolio of fully electric vehicles in America. Group brands plan to introduce more than 25 new BEV models by 2030. For this reason, the company aims to have more production capacity in the region.
