Mer and IKEA Forge Sustainable Partnership: 1,000 New EV Charging Points to Power Green Mobility in Germany

The first charging station is expected to be installed in spring 2025, and there are plans for its expansion due to the increasing demand.

Mer, a provider of charging infrastructure, has announced a strategic partnership with IKEA Germany. The collaboration aims to establish over 1,000 new electric vehicle (EV) charging points across 54 IKEA stores and various locations in Germany within the next 3 years.

“Our ambition has always been to make sustainable electric mobility easy and accessible for everyone,” remarked Kristoffer Thoner, CEO of Mer, emphasizing the alignment of their mission with EU’s green agreement and “Fit for55” initiative. Through this partnership, Mer will not only install and operate the charging infrastructure but also ensure that EV drivers have access to 100 percent renewable energy, underscoring the commitment to sustainable practices.

IKEA’s longstanding efforts to combat climate change align seamlessly with Mer’s vision of making sustainable mobility accessible to all. Otto Loserth, Managing Director of Mer in Germany, declared that the synergy between these two companies, which have a Scandinavian heritage, and their holistic approach to electric mobility and sustainability. Mer’s charging stations, averaging 19 charging points per location at IKEA stores, will cater to customers, employees, and delivery vehicles alike.

All electricity supplies will be provided using 100% renewable energy, indicating the sustainability goal of the partnership. The first charging station is expected to be installed in spring 2025, and there are plans for its expansion due to the increasing demand.
