Nio and Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd. (GAC Group) recently inked a strategic cooperation pact on charging and swapping in Guangzhou. This agreement heralds a profound collaboration touching various aspects like battery standards, vehicle research and development (R&D), customization, battery asset management, swapping network development, and operations. Additionally, both parties have agreed to open up their charging platforms to each other.
Under this agreement, Nio and GAC Group will collaborate to establish a unified battery standard, co-develop passenger vehicles capable of battery swapping, and create battery swap stations compatible with both brands’ models. They aim to introduce vehicle models with swappable batteries adhering to jointly established standards and implement a swap station solution catering to both Nio and GAC vehicles. Furthermore, they plan to open up and interconnect their battery swapping networks under a unified operational and management system, fostering a larger, standardized, and unified power infrastructure network to achieve economies of scale. The cooperation also encompasses the development of a comprehensive management system covering the lifecycle of power batteries, along with an efficient management platform and operating mechanism for battery assets.
By the end of this month, leveraging their respective charging facilities, Nio and GAC Group will achieve dynamic data interconnectivity, allowing users to seamlessly search for, navigate to, initiate, and pay for charging sessions through the brands’ apps, mini-programs, and power maps on center displays, enhancing user convenience.
In a broader move towards cooperation in charging and swapping technologies and networks, Nio has forged partnerships with Chang’an Automobile, Geely Holding Group, Chery Automobile, JAC Group, and Lotus to establish a standardized, unified power infrastructure network with wider coverage. Moreover, Nio has embarked on comprehensive swapping cooperation with energy sector companies such as SINOPEC, CNOOC, Shell, State Grid Corporation of China, China Southern Power Grid, Anhui Wenergy, and Zhong’an Energy, aiming to nurture a rapidly evolving battery swapping ecosystem and offer more efficient and convenient recharging experiences.
