Mitsubishi Electric and Aisin Form Joint Venture to Advance Next-Generation Electric Vehicle Technologies

The collaboration aims to leverage the unique strengths of each company to address the increasing demand for vehicle electrification and contribute to global carbon neutrality.

Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, Mitsubishi Electric Mobility Corporation, and Aisin Corporation have announced a basic agreement to form a joint venture (JV) to develop and market products for next-generation electric vehicles (EVs). This JV will inherit part of Mitsubishi Electric Mobility’s business and will focus on creating traction motors, power converters, and control software optimized for use in battery EVs (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs). The collaboration aims to leverage the unique strengths of each company to address the increasing demand for vehicle electrification and contribute to global carbon neutrality.

The Mitsubishi Electric Group brings advanced power electronics, motor technologies, and control optimization to the table, while Mitsubishi Electric Mobility offers expertise in vehicle electrification, particularly for hybrid vehicles. Aisin, on the other hand, provides a comprehensive range of electric units for various EV types through BluE Nexus, enhancing power consumption and driving performance. This JV will integrate Mitsubishi’s and Aisin’s technologies to develop new products that meet the diverse needs of the evolving EV market. Initially, the JV will be spun off from Mitsubishi Electric Mobility, with Mitsubishi holding a 66% stake and Aisin 34%, pending regulatory approvals.
