E.ON and MAN Truck & Bus to Build Europe’s Largest Electric Truck Charging Network

E.ON and MAN Truck & Bus are taking significant steps to expand the charging infrastructure for commercial vehicles in Germany and Europe. Their collaboration will see the establishment of around 170 locations with approximately 400 public charging stations for electric trucks across Europe, including 125 sites in Germany. This initiative aims to support the European goal of reducing emissions from heavy commercial vehicles by 90 percent by 2040. The charging stations will be strategically located at MAN service bases, primarily in industrial areas or near motorways, to integrate seamlessly into daily operations. Each site will feature several 400 kW charging stations initially, capable of recharging an average electric truck for a range of up to 300 kilometers in about 45 minutes, with future upgrades to the MCS megawatt charging system planned.

The partnership between E.ON and MAN Truck & Bus highlights a commitment to accelerating the electrification of heavy-duty transport. The first 80 sites are expected to be operational by the end of 2025. This move is seen as a crucial step toward achieving the ambitious decarbonization targets set by the German government and the EU. E.ON, leveraging its extensive expertise in charging infrastructure, and MAN Truck & Bus, with its ongoing development of electric vehicles, are laying the groundwork for a robust public charging network. This collaboration not only underscores the importance of a high-performance charging infrastructure but also calls for further support from policymakers to build this network on a large scale. The initiative aligns with broader industry efforts to transition from diesel to electric drive, as evidenced by MAN’s upcoming launch of its production-ready electric truck and the expansion of E.ON’s comprehensive network of car charging points across Europe.
