TIER IV Joins METI’s $4.5M Autonomous Driving Project

TIER IV has been selected by METI to participate in a major project aimed at advancing digital transformation in the mobility sector.

TIER IV, the leading innovator in open-source autonomous driving software, has been selected by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) to participate in a major project aimed at advancing digital transformation in the mobility sector. The project, which includes a substantial grant of $4.5 million for fiscal year 2024, focuses on the deployment of robotaxis for transportation and autonomous trucks for logistics. As part of these efforts, TIER IV is collaborating with various partners to develop a new robotaxi vehicle and conduct proof-of-concept (PoC) tests in Tokyo, alongside preparations for mass production and nationwide deployment. Additionally, the company is accelerating the development of core functions for autonomous highway trucks, working closely with Isuzu and Mitsubishi Fuso to bring autonomous vehicle solutions to the logistics sector, including planned PoC tests on the Shin-Tomei Expressway.
