Mercedes-Benz Vans is advancing its electrification strategy with the introduction of the VAN.EA (Mercedes-Benz Van Electric Architecture), which will serve as the basis for all newly developed medium and large vans starting in 2026. This modular, flexible, and scalable electric architecture signifies a key step toward the company’s reinvention of the van market. The first prototypes have already hit public roads, signaling the commencement of extensive testing. VAN.EA is designed to cater to both luxury and premium segments, with privately positioned vans ranging from family-oriented models to exclusive VIP shuttles and luxurious limousines, while the commercial vans will emphasize premium quality.
The new van models will feature a range of cutting-edge technologies to meet diverse customer needs, including front-wheel drive and 4×4 configurations, as well as advanced systems like the Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS), an 800-volt charging system, and a 22 kW AC charger. These vehicles are undergoing rigorous testing, including a long-distance journey from Stuttgart to the North Cape in June 2024, focusing on chassis, powertrain, and high-voltage components. As part of the ongoing development process, the next major milestone will be winter testing in Sweden to evaluate the performance of all components under extreme cold conditions.
