BorgWarner Expands in China with Innovative EV Motor Projects

BorgWarner has made significant strides in expanding its presence in the new energy vehicle sector.

BorgWarner has made significant strides in expanding its presence in the new energy vehicle sector by securing four major electric motor projects with three leading Chinese automobile manufacturers. These agreements encompass the supply of advanced 400V high-voltage hairpin motors for a 200kW hybrid rear-drive platform, set to commence production in August 2025, as well as motors for a 150kW pure electric platform, scheduled for mass production in March 2026. Additionally, BorgWarner will be providing electric motors for next-generation vehicles of another major Chinese automaker, including range-extended and plug-in hybrid models, with production beginning in the latter half of 2025. These strategic partnerships reinforce BorgWarner’s commitment to the growing electric vehicle market in China and its dedication to delivering cutting-edge powertrain solutions.

In line with the increasing demand for efficient and high-performance electric motors, BorgWarner has introduced its Ultra-Short High-Voltage Hairpin (S-HVH) technology. This innovative motor design optimizes manufacturing processes to significantly reduce end turn lengths, leading to a more compact motor with improved power density and lower material costs. The S-HVH technology offers a reduction of over 5mm in end size compared to conventional high-voltage hairpin windings while enhancing overall efficiency by decreasing copper usage and axial volume. Compatible with both 400V and 800V systems, this technology is seamlessly adaptable to existing production lines, ensuring smoother integration and scalability for manufacturers. Through these advancements, BorgWarner continues to drive innovation in the electric mobility sector, cementing its role as a key player in the transition to sustainable transportation.
