Hesai Technology, a global leader in automotive lidar solutions, is expanding its partnership with BYD by supplying lidar technology for over ten models, set for mass production in 2025. This collaboration aligns with BYD’s ambitious push towards intelligent driving, following its record-breaking sales of over four million smart vehicles in 2024. The company recently announced that all its vehicles would feature “God’s Eye,” an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) designed to make high-level automation more accessible. Lidar plays a crucial role in enabling navigation on autopilot (NOA) for urban and highway driving, powering two variations of the “God’s Eye” system. With China’s automotive lidar market seeing rapid growth, 2024 marked the first time on-the-road lidar installations surpassed 1.5 million units, more than doubling from the previous year.
Hesai has firmly positioned itself as an industry frontrunner, becoming the first company to deliver over 100,000 lidar units in a single month by December 2024. With an expected annual production capacity of over two million units in 2025, Hesai continues to strengthen its production capabilities and R&D innovations. The company has secured over 100 design wins across 22 automotive manufacturers, including prominent names like Chery, Great Wall Motors, and Changan. Many automakers, including leading Chinese and international joint ventures, have chosen Hesai’s ATX lidar for their mass production vehicles since its debut in April 2024. The ATX model offers high-performance capabilities in a compact design, supporting advanced assisted driving functions. Set for mass production in early 2025, this lidar system will become a standard feature in multiple vehicle models, reinforcing Hesai’s influence in the rapidly evolving smart mobility landscape.
