Stellantis has introduced its first in-house-developed automated driving system, STLA AutoDrive 1.0, marking a significant step toward advanced vehicle automation. This cutting-edge technology features Hands-Free and Eyes-Off (SAE Level 3) functionality, enabling drivers to relinquish control at speeds of up to 60 km/h (37 mph), even in nighttime and adverse weather conditions. Designed to alleviate driver fatigue in stop-and-go traffic, the system allows users to engage in non-driving activities, such as watching a movie or reading, while the vehicle seamlessly manages speed, steering, and braking. The integration of STLA AutoDrive into Stellantis’ broader technology ecosystem—alongside STLA Brain and STLA Smart Cockpit—underscores the company’s commitment to redefining modern mobility with greater convenience and safety.
The system is engineered for intuitive operation, requiring only the press of a button to engage once conditions permit. A suite of advanced sensors continuously monitors the vehicle’s surroundings, ensuring smooth and predictable driving behavior. Stellantis has focused on refining the system to react naturally to traffic flow, making lane changes, maintaining safe distances, and adapting to merging vehicles feel effortless. STLA AutoDrive also includes Level 2 and Level 2+ capabilities for higher-speed travel, incorporating Adaptive Cruise Control and lane-centering functions. Furthermore, an automated sensor-cleaning system ensures reliable operation by keeping critical components clear of debris and environmental obstructions.
With a scalable and adaptable architecture, STLA AutoDrive is designed for widespread deployment across Stellantis’ vehicle lineup, ensuring global compatibility while adhering to regional regulations. The system’s cloud connectivity enables over-the-air updates, allowing continuous enhancements and real-time data integration. Looking ahead, Stellantis envisions further advancements, including expanding Hands-Free and Eyes-Off functionality to speeds of up to 95 km/h (59 mph) and introducing off-road automation for select models. By prioritizing safety, adaptability, and a stress-free driving experience, STLA AutoDrive represents a major milestone in the evolution of autonomous driving technology.
