Volvo Cars is celebrating the launch of its new electric flagship SUV, the EX90, which is now being manufactured at their Charleston, South Carolina plant with deliveries expected later this year. The EX90 not only broadens Volvo’s electric vehicle portfolio but also signifies a major technological advancement for the company as it is their first vehicle powered by core computing technology, enhancing safety features. The inaugural customer-bound EX90, painted in Denim Blue, represents Volvo’s commitment to innovation, safety, and sustainability. CEO Jim Rowan emphasized the importance of this milestone in Volvo’s journey towards a new era of human-centric technology, as well as their dedication to the local community and the US market at large.

Volvo’s Charleston facility, which opened in 2018, currently produces the EX90 and the S60 sedan, with a capacity of up to 150,000 cars per year. The company has heavily invested in upgrading the plant, including a new body shop, paint shop, and a state-of-the-art battery pack production line. The EX90, boasting a fully electric range of up to 300 miles, is designed to be the safest Volvo ever, integrating advanced safety technology and software informed by numerous sensors. Reflecting Scandinavian design principles, the EX90 offers a spacious, versatile seven-seater configuration. It features a powerful, constantly connected core system that can be updated over time, showcasing Volvo’s global engineering prowess and leadership in the evolving automotive technology landscape.
