Mercedes Benz is building an extensive high-power charging network starting in North America and expanding to Europe, China and other markets. The company’s goal is to have an extensive network in place within ten years, before going fully electric. Mercedes Benz’s charging centers will be located in key cities, densely populated areas, main arteries, retail and service locations, including Mercedes Benz service points.
With this move, the company aims to improve the Mercedes Benz ownership experience and accelerate EV conversion. While the charging network will primarily focus on Mercedes Benz customers, it will also be open to drivers of other brands with compatible technology. Announced at CES 2023 in Las Vegas, the new powerful charging network will be implemented with partners such as MN8 Energy and ChargePoint. By 2027, a high-quality, sustainable and reliable charging experience is planned with a total of 2,500 powerful charging points at 400 charging hubs in North America.
Mercedes Benz charging points will provide charging powers of up to 350 kW. Thanks to intelligent charging management, each vehicle will receive the maximum possible capacity, thus minimizing waiting times. The company’s total financial investment in this area in North America will exceed EU 1 billion.
