Wireless charging company WiTricity has announced a partnership with Chinese bus company YuTong Bus to provide charging for their autonomous buses. This will be the first application of wireless charging for autonomous electric buses. Every day new progresses comes about autonomous driving, and the requirements for charging and services will become more critical. Wireless charging apps could change the future of electric transportation and logistics.
YuTong’s electric buses, the subject of this agreement, will start operating in Zhengzhou, China. The autonomous bus named Xiaoyu 2.0 has level 4 autonomous features and can carry 10 passengers. The maximum travel distance of the vehicle is 150 km. Thanks to WiTricity’s Halo wireless charging system, vehicles can be charged efficiently without the hassle of cables.
