AkzoNobel’s Resicoat brand has introduced an innovative powder coatings technology designed to enhance electrical protection for electric vehicle (EV) battery systems. The new coating offers a significant advancement in the market by providing high dielectric strength in a single application. This innovation meets the growing demand for safer battery systems, allowing for the required film thickness to be achieved with just one spray, thereby improving efficiency and productivity. The technology is particularly suited for various battery system components, such as cooling plates, side plates, and enclosures, and is currently available in China.
Jeff Jirak, Director of AkzoNobel’s Powder Coatings business, highlighted the significance of this development, emphasizing that the new technology not only enhances safety by ensuring consistent electrical insulation but also streamlines the manufacturing process. The one-time application reduces production time, labor, and resource usage, thus optimizing asset utilization. In addition to offering excellent dielectric properties, the coating also provides resistance against thermal shock, water immersion, and chemicals, further protecting battery systems. AkzoNobel’s commitment to innovation and customer collaboration has enabled them to address market needs effectively, reinforcing their global reputation for quality and reliability.
