Honda Expands Ohio EV Hub with Flexible Production for Petrol, Hybrid, and Electric Vehicles

Honda is making significant strides in establishing its EV Hub in Ohio, aiming to produce petrol, hybrid-electric, and battery-electric vehicles on a flexible production line. The first electric vehicle from this initiative, based on the Acura Performance EV Concept, will be produced at the Marysville Auto Plant in late 2025. Honda’s retooling efforts at the Marysville, East Liberty, and Anna Engine Plants reflect a broader strategy of transitioning toward human-friendly and environmentally responsible manufacturing processes. The installation of 6,000-ton high-pressure die-cast machines for megacasting at the Anna Engine Plant is a key part of this transformation, enabling the production of larger, more complex components like the Intelligent Power Unit (IPU), which houses the EV battery. This shift also includes a focus on simplifying manufacturing and logistics, creating optimized environments that enhance both product quality and associate working conditions.

Honda’s broader electrification strategy, outlined during the launch of the Acura Performance EV Concept at the 2024 Monterey Car Week, positions the company to make significant progress toward its goal of having battery-electric and fuel cell electric vehicles comprise 100% of its sales by 2040. The establishment of the Ohio EV Hub is a pivotal step in this journey, providing a foundation of expertise in EV production for Honda’s operations across North America and globally. Despite this focus on electrification, Honda plans to maintain its internal combustion engine (ICE) and hybrid production lines to meet ongoing customer demand, with the continued success of these vehicles supporting its investments in the future of EVs. The EV Hub and the Honda-LG joint venture battery plant are part of a multi-billion dollar investment in Ohio, underscoring Honda’s commitment to a flexible, sustainable future.
