Infineon Technologies AG has expanded its EiceDRIVER™ family with the introduction of new isolated gate driver ICs tailored for electric vehicle applications. These advanced devices are optimized for the latest IGBT and silicon carbide (SiC) technologies, offering seamless integration with Infineon’s HybridPACK™ Drive G2 Fusion module—the industry’s first plug-and-play power module that combines both silicon and SiC components. The newly introduced third-generation gate drivers, including the 1EDI302xAS series for IGBT and 1EDI303xAS series for SiC/Fusion, are AEC-qualified and ISO 26262-compliant, making them highly suitable for traction inverters in cost-efficient and high-performance electric vehicle (xEV) platforms. With output capabilities of up to 20 A, these devices can drive inverters of all power levels, extending beyond 300 kW. Additionally, lower-power variants with 15 A output are designed for entry-level battery electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, as well as externally excited synchronous machines (EESM).
The new gate driver ICs incorporate several advanced features that enhance system reliability and efficiency. The inclusion of a tunable soft-off mechanism ensures superior short-circuit performance, aligning with the latest developments in SiC and IGBT technologies. Furthermore, robust safety features such as an integrated self-test function for desaturation protection (DESAT) and overcurrent protection (OCP) enhance fault detection and system monitoring. The devices also include a continuously sampling 12-bit delta-sigma ADC, allowing direct voltage readings from temperature sensors or NTCs, contributing to precise thermal management. Compliance with VDE 0884-17:2021-10 reinforces insulation safety, ensuring reliable performance in high-voltage environments. Additionally, the compact PG-DSO-20 package, coupled with excellent compatibility with modern power stage technologies, facilitates seamless integration and accelerates the design cycle for manufacturers. Through these innovations, Infineon continues to strengthen its position in the electric vehicle power electronics market, delivering solutions that enhance efficiency, safety, and design flexibility.
