A New Era in Long-Distance Electric Transport
As the global transportation industry races toward decarbonization, long-haul electric trucks are emerging as game-changers. According to the International Energy Agency, freight transport accounts for over 7% of global CO₂ emissions. This makes electrification of trucks a critical step. Until recently, range limitations and charging delays held back the shift to EV truck in long-distance applications. Volvo Trucks aims to change that narrative with the launch of its Volvo FH Aero Electric. A vehicle that combines extended range, rapid charging, and high payload capacity. Designed to meet both environmental demands and business productivity needs, this truck sets a new standard for zero-emission freight.
Revolutionary Range and Charging Capability
The new Volvo FH Aero Electric boasts an impressive 600-kilometer range, made possible by its innovative e-axle design and eight onboard batteries totaling 780 kWh. It uses the Megawatt Charging System (MCS), which enables a superfast 40-minute charge from 20% to 80%—well within the EU-mandated rest time for drivers. This significantly boosts efficiency and ensures the vehicle can support full-day operations with minimal downtime. Such capabilities mark a major leap for EV truck in long-haul scenarios.
Payload Efficiency with Sustainability
Despite housing extra batteries, the truck maintains a high payload capacity, nearly matching traditional diesel models. Thanks to its 6×2 axle configuration, the vehicle offers improved weight distribution and supports a total weight of up to 48 tonnes. This blend of range, payload, and speed makes it a highly competitive choice for transport companies aiming to cut emissions without compromising efficiency.
Supporting Services and Industry Experience
Volvo offers a full suite of services to support fleet electrification. These include route analysis, depot and roadside charging solutions, and real-time fleet performance monitoring. Having delivered over 5,000 electric trucks across 50 countries since 2019, Volvo brings deep expertise to clients ready to transition to clean transport. The FH Aero Electric is a strong addition to its portfolio, extending Volvo’s reach into long-haul electrification.
Leading the Charge to Net Zero
Volvo Trucks’ launch of the FH Aero Electric supports its three-path strategy toward net-zero emissions by 2040. This includes battery electric, fuel cell electric, and renewable-fueled combustion engines. By investing in scalable and diverse technologies, Volvo ensures long-term sustainability for freight transport. The FH Aero Electric is not just a new truck—it’s a pivotal step in reshaping the logistics industry toward a zero-emission future.
