Revolutionizing Electric Truck Charging Infrastructure
Daimler Truck is taking a bold step toward the future of sustainable road freight transport. To accelerate the transition to battery-electric trucks, the company has unveiled plans for a massive semi-public charging network under the TruckCharge brand. Charging infrastructure remains one of the biggest barriers to achieving climate-neutral freight transport. According to the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA), Europe needs around 35,000 high-power charging stations to meet its 2030 CO2 reduction targets. Currently, fewer than 1,000 stations exist for heavy-duty vehicles, with inadequate charging capacity. Daimler Truck’s initiative aims to bridge this gap by installing over 3,000 fast-charging points by 2030. This will make it Europe’s largest semi-public charging network.
TruckCharge: A Smart Solution for Semi-Public Charging
The TruckCharge network introduces a unique approach to shared charging infrastructure. Daimler Truck’s customers will have the option to open their private charging stations for external use, creating a semi-public charging network. Depot owners can make their stations available when they are not in use, increasing charging accessibility for electric trucks. This initiative not only enhances the overall network coverage but also helps site owners generate additional revenue. The official launch of the TruckCharge network is planned for Q3 2025. This will mark a significant milestone in the expansion of electric truck charging solutions.
Complementing Existing Public Charging Networks
TruckCharge is designed to work alongside existing public charging networks such as Milence, a joint venture between Daimler Truck, the TRATON GROUP, and Volvo Group. Milence aims to install 1,700 public charging points by 2027, complementing TruckCharge’s semi-public approach. Additionally, Daimler Truck customers will continue to have access to the Mercedes ServiceCard, which enables charging at UTA Edenred’s expanding public network across 28 European countries. This dual approach ensures that fleet operators have flexible and cost-effective charging options.
A Holistic Approach to Electric Truck Charging
Under the TruckCharge brand, Daimler Truck is consolidating its e-infrastructure solutions into a comprehensive package. This initiative includes consulting, infrastructure development, and operational support to help truck fleet operators transition to electrification efficiently. The network is designed to be brand-agnostic, allowing electric trucks from different manufacturers to utilize its services. By offering cost-effective and scalable charging solutions, Daimler Truck is setting the stage for the future of sustainable freight transportation in Europe.
