Electreon’s World-First Wireless Charging Highway for Electric Vehicles

Electreon has pioneered a solution offering wireless in-motion charging on highways.

Traditional EV charging requires stops and plugs, often hindering seamless long-distance travel, especially for heavy-duty trucks. Electreon, a global leader in wireless electric road technology, has pioneered a solution offering wireless in-motion charging on highways. In 2025, they launched the world’s first dynamic wireless charging highway on a 1.5-kilometer stretch of the A10 highway near Paris, France. This breakthrough enables electric trucks, buses, vans, and passenger cars to recharge while moving at highway speeds. It vastly expands EV usability and efficiency for freight and passenger transport alike.

The Charge-As-You-Drive System

Led by VINCI Autoroutes, France’s largest toll road operator, and developed with Gustave Eiffel University and Hutchinson. Electreon’s system provides continuous wireless power transfer of over 200 kW on average, with peaks exceeding 300 kW. Tests verified that this power is twice the amount needed to keep a fully loaded heavy-duty truck charged as it drives on the move. The technology removes the need for stops to recharge, making long-haul electric freight feasible and lowering downtime. Multiple vehicle types can charge simultaneously. This establishes a scalable model for electric mobility that integrates highways as active charging assets essential for the electrification of transport networks.

Enabling Sustainable Transportation and Emission Reductions

This milestone is critical for France’s ambitious Electric Road System (ERS) roadmap aiming to deploy 9,000 kilometers of electric roads by 2035. The wireless charging highway supports decarbonization efforts by accelerating the electrification of heavy freight fleets which contribute over 16% of the country’s emissions. Industry leaders highlight how integrating wireless charging on primary road networks complements static charging stations and significantly cuts greenhouse gas emissions from freight logistics. Electreon’s dynamic charging technology has passed rigorous independent lab validations. Confirming its safety, durability, and reliability under typical highway conditions and traffic volumes.

Expanding Applications and Global Impact

Beyond France, Electreon is growing its wireless charging network internationally. The company has already deployed the first public wireless charging road in Michigan (U.S.). And supports projects for electric shuttle fleets at UCLA, as well as heavy-duty truck testing tracks in Utah. These initiatives demonstrate broad applications from urban transit buses to heavy commercial trucks. As a result set a precedent for continuous, connected transport infrastructure. Electreon’s innovation makes electric truck adoption more practical and economically viable by enabling continuous charging, reducing the need for large batteries and lowering operational costs.

Toward a Charging-Enabled Transportation Future

The success of this wireless charging highway marks a pivotal moment in electric road advancement worldwide. It proves that highway infrastructures themselves can become dynamic energy suppliers to vehicles, transforming mobility paradigms by eliminating charging downtime. Electreon’s achievement not only meets but exceeds the French government’s targets, positioning the technology as crucial for global carbon reduction goals. With ongoing trials confirming efficacy and expansion plans underway across Europe, Asia, and North America, Electreon is driving a future where electric roads facilitate sustainable, efficient, and seamless electric vehicle travel on a large scale.
