A Nationwide Push for Accessible Charging Stations
Electric vehicles are quickly becoming the new normal on Turkiye’s roads. But for this transformation to truly accelerate, one key element is essential: a strong and reliable charging infrastructure. And that’s exactly where the Ministry of Industry and Technology has stepped in with a brand-new move — the second round of EV charging station support has officially launched.
With this new initiative, fast-charging units will be installed across the country, making electric mobility more accessible and practical than ever.
The Goal: Building a Charging Network Everyone Can Reach
According to Minister Mehmet Fatih Kacır, the goal is crystal clear: to bring fast-charging stations to districts that still lack coverage, and ensure equal access to EV infrastructure across all regions of Turkiye.
Program Highlights
- 536 new fast-charging units will be supported
- Over 300 districts to benefit from the program
- 15 investment regions will be prioritized
- Coverage will surpass 85% of all districts nationwide
- Total funding available: 500 million TL
- Up to 75% of investments can be covered by the grant
- Application deadline: June 20
- Apply at: www.sarjdestek.sanayi.gov.tr
Why Does This Matter?
What’s the biggest concern for EV drivers? Charging — especially on long road trips. Without enough stations, people hesitate to go electric. That’s why expanding the infrastructure isn’t just about convenience; it’s about building confidence in the technology and making EVs a reliable option for everyone.
A Quick Recap: What Did the First Support Program Achieve?
To appreciate the importance of this second phase, it helps to look back at the first round of support launched in 2022. Back then, Turkiye had just over 200 fast-charging sockets. Fast forward to 2024, and that number is now close to 12,000 — nearly half of which were installed thanks to the first support program.
Additional milestones:
- 170+ licensed companies now operate in the EV charging sector
- Charging stations now span all 81 provinces and nearly 500 districts
- Total installed charging power has grown by 170%, reaching 1,736 MW
This new phase isn’t just a minor addition — it’s a major leap forward.
Leading the Way in Europe
As the number of electric vehicles on the road climbs, so does the need for charging. By the end of 2024, Turkiye surpassed 185,000 registered EVs, and that figure is expected to keep rising alongside infrastructure improvements.
And here’s the impressive part: Turkiye now leads Europe in terms of the number of EVs per fast-charging station. When it comes to installed power per charger, Turkiye is also ahead of the pack:
- Turkiye: 9.36 kW
- Netherlands: 8.30 kW
- Germany: 6.20 kW
- France: 5.57 kW
In Summary: The Road Is Opening for EVs in Turkey
This second support program is more than just a few extra stations — it’s a strategic move that could reshape the future of electric mobility in Turkiye. From major cities to small towns, EV users will soon be able to drive without range anxiety.
With the rise of local EV manufacturers like Togg, this expansion presents a huge opportunity. Not only does it support a cleaner, greener transportation future, but it also plays a key role in reducing energy dependency and strengthening national sustainability goals.
