Charge-free, almost, EV from Aptera

Aptera has announced the Aptera Launch Edition, an ultra-efficient vehicle that minimizes grid dependency with solar power. When developing the Launch Edition, the company had only one goal: energy efficiency. Thanks to its unique design and ultra-light materials, it consumes a quarter of the energy compared to other electric vehicles. There are special solar panels of approximately 700 W on the vehicle. Thanks to this feature, the vehicle promises to travel up to 64 km per day with only solar energy.

With Aptera Launch Edition’s built-in solar panels, most users will continue to use the vehicle for weeks or even months without the need for charging. In intense sun regions, the system will provide a daily charge for 64 km, while in areas with moderate solar density, such as New York City, it will be enough to charge the vehicle a few times a year.

Aptera, Launch Edition is a two-seater vehicle and promises a total distance of approximately 650 km. Made of ultra-light composite materials, the vehicle has a maximum speed of 162 km/h. It takes only 4 seconds to reach 100 km/h. The vehicle is currently in the final stage of product development and is preparing for crash tests. According to the company, mass production will start at the end of 2023. “Our Launch Edition is our chance to show the world something that’s never existed before,” said Chris Anthony, one of the founders of the company.
