Renault and Nissan have announced a long-term vision to both increase production and launch new electric vehicles in India. Another important goal of the two companies in this vision is the transition to emission-free manufacturing. At their headquarters in Chennai, they will collaborate on six new vehicles, including two all-electric vehicles for both local and international markets.
Renault and Nissan will invest an initial investment of around $600m to support the new projects as they seek to transform their Chennai headquarters into an international export hub. This will create 2,000 new jobs at the Renault Nissan Technology & Business Center in Chennai.
The six new models, three for each company, will be designed and built in Chennai. They will be built on common Alliance platforms while retaining the distinctive styling of the respective brands. The two A-segment electric vehicles will be the first for both Renault and Nissan in India. The vehicles will not only target Indian users, but a significant increase in exports is also expected.
