Geolocation technology specialist TomTom shared its report on fuel consumption and traffic conditions of vehicles worldwide. According to the study conducted in 389 cities in 56 countries, the cost of running their cars increased in 2022. Drivers paid 27% more on average to fill their tanks with gasoline compared to the previous year. On the other hand, it cost diesel drivers 40% more to fill their tanks. This was mainly due to factors related to different sectors and especially to higher energy prices due to the Russia-Ukraine war.
On the other hand, the report showed that electric vehicles are the most efficient and cost-effective way to get from one place to another. Even when drivers used fast DC charging stations, they were able to travel at a lower cost than with fossil fuels. The data shows that drivers who charged their vehicles at slow charging systems saved almost half as much.
