Sensata Launches SIM200 for High-Voltage Safety

Sensata Technologies has introduced the SIM200 Insulation Monitoring Device (IMD).

Next-Generation Insulation Monitoring for Electric Vehicles and Charging Systems

Sensata Technologies has introduced the SIM200 Insulation Monitoring Device (IMD). A cutting-edge solution designed to enhance safety in high-voltage electric vehicle (EV) ecosystems. This advanced monitoring device ensures continuous, real-time detection of insulation failures in unearthed (Isolated Terra) DC systems, including EV charging stations and electric vehicles. As the demand for high-powered charging solutions rises, ensuring electrical safety becomes crucial. The SIM200 addresses this need with its innovative features. Delivering uninterrupted insulation monitoring even when the system is powered off or undergoing voltage fluctuations.

Advanced Signal Injection Technology for Reliable Safety Monitoring

The SIM200 employs Sensata’s patented signal injection algorithm, a key technology inherited from the company’s 2021 acquisition of Sendyne Corp. This technology continuously injects small voltage pulses into the system’s high-voltage rails, alternating between positive and negative terminals. By monitoring the response, the device accurately detects insulation degradation, helping prevent electrical hazards and ensuring system integrity. Furthermore, the SIM200 provides total capacitance measurement, a crucial function for megawatt charging applications that require adherence to stringent safety standards.

Engineered for Versatility and Compliance with Global Standards

Designed for seamless integration across diverse high-voltage applications, the SIM200 supports voltage ranges from 60 V up to 1500 V. It meets UL 2231-2 recognition and complies with IEC 61557-8 standards, ensuring global acceptance and reliability. With dual fault state outputs, a robust self-diagnosis system, and a modular CAN 2.0B interface, it provides detailed system insights while maintaining operational safety. Alice Martins, Vice President and General Manager of Sensata’s Industrial Solutions Business, highlights that the SIM200 aligns with Sensata’s commitment to supporting OEMs in electrification efforts, reinforcing the company’s vision for a safer and more sustainable future.
