Semiconductor technology company onsemi has announced a long-term supply agreement with BMW. The company’s EliteSiC technology will find a place in the German automaker’s electric vehicles. To be used in 400 V DC electric drivetrains, onsemi’s latest EliteSiC 750 V M3 core is used in power modules that deliver hundreds of kW of power.
This strategic collaboration enables onsemi to develop electric drivetrains with higher performance and reliability. Improved electrical and mechanical characteristics lead to higher efficiency, minimizing losses and thus maximizing performance. Onsemi points out that its systems bring a significant competitive advantage in optimizing vehicle performance and meeting users’ expectations for longer distances.
